WHAT IS TSA?
The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national organization of students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Open to students enrolled in or who have completed technology education courses, TSA’s membership includes more than 250,000 middle and high school students across the United States. TSA is supported by educators, parents, and business leaders who believe in the need for a technologically literate society. Members learn through exciting competitive events, leadership opportunities, and much more. A wide range of activities makes TSA a positive experience for every student.

Chapters
TSA chapters take the study of STEM beyond the classroom and give students the chance to pursue academic challenges among friends with similar goals and interests. Together, chapter members work on competitive events, attend conferences on the state and national levels, and learn and apply leadership skills. Members may become officers within their state and then run for national office.
At Liberty Middle School, our TSA Chapter starts preparing our projects and events for the April conference in the fall.
If interested in joining, come to a meeting or email a Liberty TSA Advisor for more information.
Parents are requested to park in the front office parking lot (NOT the carline area) to pick up students when meetings regularly end at 4:15pm. Meetings will be weekly on Fridays during 25-26. Check the calendar dates surrounding a holiday/inclement weather for cancellations or project deadlines as more meetings may be available. Students will use the meeting time to work with partners on any partner projects they decide to participate in. If working individually on a project, the meetings are for checking in and informational purposes. If unable to make a meeting, other arrangements can be made via school gmail to communicate information needed for participation. A student is not required to attend every week. However, if working with a partner, he/she needs to consistently meet with their partner as close to weekly as possible.
New to TSA?
Imagine an activity so captivating that your young person spends hours working on it for weeks at a time. That is what can happen when TSA members engage in TSA competitions. Only TSA members have the opportunity to compete at exciting state conferences and then at the annual National TSA Conference. Expert judging by technology and engineering educators and industry representatives inspires the best from participants. Members are rewarded not only with medals or trophies, but also with memories of the camaraderie and the challenge of participating in a State or National TSA Conference. TSA competitions include categories such as Audio Podcasting, Biotechnology Design, Career Prep, Coding, Digital Photography, Dragster Design, Flight, Leadership Strategies, Medical Technology, Prepared Presentation, Software Development, Technology Problem Solving, Video Game Design, and much more. Be sure you are looking at the MIDDLE SCHOOL competitions on the website.

Want to go to TSA Nationals in Washington, D.C. in the 250th Birthday Year of the United States of America?
June 22 - June 26, 2026 at the Gaylord National
National Attendees will need to meet May 1 after the end-of-the-year party with a parent to complete registration paperwork and pay National Conference registration only. Room 112, Purple Pod at 4:15pm. National attendees will stay after the party to discuss preparations/plans for the national conference. Parent/families will need to book hotel, plan and pay for travel for themselves. The TSA Advisor will register student and be a liaison at the national conference between the student and National TSA/judges but the parent/guardian will be that student's chaperone for the entire trip. Costs range anywhere from $2500 to $3500 depending on how many family members attend with the student and if they are staying with family/friends or at the conference hotel. There is a National TSA charge of $200 per registered person for those not staying in a conference hotel so remember to factor that into cost planning/budgeting.
Students MUST attend with a parent/adult guardian if attending Nationals.
NOTE: Students may compete at Nationals regardless of placement at State IF it is NOT a state advisor-approved event. If it IS a state advisor-approved event (like Children's Stories) then the student must place in the top three places at state to compete in THAT event for the TSA National Conference. They can still go and compete in a DIFFERENT event if they did not place in their original event and they want to do a NON-state advisor-approved event. It is recommended that you compete in at least two but no more than three/four events in your first year.

Competitions at Leadership Conferences - Two Levels
TSA State Leadership Conference, Montgomery, Alabama - Usually 2nd week in April (Tuesday, Wednesday)
Students who wish to prepare for TSA events have the opportunity to participate in local class projects and will have the option to compete their chosen event/projects at the state leadership conference. The LMS State attendance conference total cost is TBD based on how many commit to attending in November and covers the cost of the advisor chaperones for one overnight. Cost is per individual student and includes annual dues ($30 paid by Sept. 30), registration fee (approx. $75), lodging ($210 split 3 or 4 per same sex room), and 2 lunches, 1 dinner and 1 breakfast ($65). Registration includes a conference Tshirt, a pin, a certificate and any awards won. To be determined is the cost per student for roundtrip chartered bus transportation (TBD). If more than 10 LMS students attend, we will be able to lower the overall cost of the trip.
TSA Conference Attire is the official TSA blue dress shirt and gray pants for boys, gray skirt/pants for girls, dark dress shoes, dark socks. For full details, see the TSA dress code website. An exception is that the State conference will allow white dress shirts (but then if you win and want to go to Nationals, you will need the official shirt or they will deduct points off your score.)
Explore TSA websites (national and state) and refer any questions to a TSA advisor in Purple Pod, 112, in person or via email.
Technology Student Association Fee Payment Site: for payment of annual dues ($30), initial trip deposit (NR $100), partial payments for trip, full payment, and donations
TSA National Leadership Conference, Gaylord National, Washington, D.C., June 22 - June 26, 2026
Students who would like to attend Nationals (and participate in a non-State Advisor-approved event(s)) and those who place at State in April in a State Advisor approved event(s) will have the option to compete in the national leadership event in June. It would be a family-led trip for individual students with their families. Registration is usually $75, other costs include transportation, meals, and they require lodging for a minimum of two nights for parents and student who choose to stay at the national conference or will charge a $200 fee if you do not. (It may be possible to go to the conference for just the day of the student's event but it is advised to save the last day of the conference's date if you feel confident your student may place because you may want to attend the awards ceremony on the last day. That can be decided up until two days before and then parent/adults/family can pay to attend just that one day to attend the awards ceremony.) A TSA Advisor will assist in coordination with TSA National for families to register, but will not be chaperoning this conference. They will serve as liaisons there. Individual families will determine their travel arrangements and chaperone their student at the national conference.
