Innovators & Makers Course Description

 

Computer Science for Innovators and Makers teaches students that programming goes beyond the virtual world into the physical world. Students are challenged to creatively use sensors and actuators to develop systems that interact with their environment. Designing algorithms and using computational thinking practices, they code and upload programs to microcontrollers that perform a variety of authentic tasks. The unit broadens students’ understanding of computer science concepts through meaningful applications. Teams select and solve a personally relevant problem related to wearable technology, interactive art, or mechanical devices.

 

APP Creators Course Description

 

App Creators introduces students to the field of computer science and the concepts of computational thinking, through the creation of mobile apps. Students are challenged to be creative and innovative, as they collaboratively design and develop mobile solutions to engaging, authentic problems. Students experience the positive impact of the application of computer science to society as well as other disciplines, particularly biomedical science. The unit provides students opportunities for self-expression. Teams identify a personal or community problem of interest to them that can be solved with a mobile app solution. The problem can address issues such as health and wellness, the environment, school culture, emergency preparedness, education, community service—the options are endless!

 

Yearbook Course Description

 

The Yearbook staff will preserve the 2017-2018 liberty school memories forever with the printed yearbook while leveraging new technology to ensure it stays exciting and relevant to today’s students.  Students will collaborate and plan a methodology to tell the complete story of the school year.  The students will focus on the development of a yearbooks with s main purposes:  education, reference, memories, history, and public relations.

Bio

War Eagle! I am an Auburn graduate and loyal fan! My husband (Brandon) and I graduated together from Auburn in 1997 with Bachelor’s Degrees in Chemical Engineering. We have traveled extensively and lived in several states and are proud to finally be back in Alabama and call Madison home. We are the proud parents of three beautiful children.  Laura Grace is an 11th grader at JCHS and loves to play volleyball!  Avery is a 10th grader at James Clemens and is a Football/Competition Cheerleader. Go Jets!!! Hayes is 9 years old and in 4th grade at Mill Creek. He loves to hunt, fish, dig in the dirt, ride his dirt bike, play baseball, and all things “boy”.

I am very enthusiastic about the opportunity I have been given to teach at Liberty Middle School and share my extensive knowledge of math and science through the Computer Science Department as the Project Lead the Way curriculum facilitator for App Creators and Innovators & Makers. . It is an exciting learning environment, and I am looking forward to quickly establishing a rapport with my students and my peers. My goal as a teacher is to help students believe in their own academic abilities as they develop an advanced rigor of thinking and clarity of expression in the challenging world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
