Principal's Bio

Mr. Nelson Brown was born and raised in Miami, Florida.  After graduating from high school in 1991, he migrated to Huntsville, Alabama, to attend Oakwood University.  Mr. Brown spent time in the workforce and later graduated from Athens State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.  He served Madison City Schools as a teacher at Heritage Elementary from 2002 – 2007.  While at Heritage, he received the Teacher of the Year award during the 2005-2006 school year.  Mr. Brown furthered his academic pursuits in education and received a Master of Education Degree in Educational Leadership in 2006 from The University of West Alabama.  He has most currently received the degree of Education Specialist in Administrator Leadership for Teaching and Learning in 2012 from Walden University. 

Mr. Brown continued his service to Madison City Schools in the role of assistant principal of Columbia Elementary from 2007-2010.  He then became Columbia’s principal from 2010-2012.  In 2012, Mr. Brown accepted the opportunity to lead Liberty Middle School where he currently serves as principal.  Mr. Brown is passionate about educating students and leading schools to maximize their potential.

Mr. Brown is happily married and has three sons.  They live in the Madison area where they enjoy church activities, traveling, sports, and simply having fun together.
